Process Phases

Co-creation phase (Inspiration, Ideation, Iteration, Implementation)

13min

Objective

Guide teams through the design thinking process to develop, refine, and implement their solutions.

Process

  • Inspiration: Encourage teams to explore various sources of inspiration, including case studies, expert talks, and community needs assessments.
  • Ideation: Facilitate brainstorming sessions, using tools like mind mapping and collaborative whiteboards on the Wolf Society’s digital hub to generate ideas.
  • Iteration: Implement rapid prototyping cycles, allowing teams to test and refine their ideas based on feedback from facilitators, mentors, partners and peers.
  • Implementation: Support teams in developing a feasible implementation plan, including timelines, resource allocation, and potential partnerships.

Milestones of the Co-creation Process

1. Formation of the Team (INSPIRE)

Objective: Assemble diverse, multidisciplinary teams that are motivated and ready to tackle the challenge or invite established teams, which already exist or were created by team members on their own.

  • Process: If not already existing, teams are formed by Wolf Society through a matchmaking process that considers the skills, backgrounds, and interests of participants. The goal is to inspire team members by connecting them with like-minded individuals who share a passion for solving the ecological challenge at hand.
  • Outcome: Teams are introduced to each other, aligning on the challenge’s goals and beginning to brainstorm initial ideas.

2. Kick-off of the Co-creation Phase (ITERATE)

Objective: Begin the co-creation journey with a structured approach, setting the stage for collaborative innovation.

  • Process: A kick-off meeting is held to outline the co-creation process, set expectations, and establish a collaborative working environment. Teams are encouraged to revisit the challenge statement and refine their understanding of the problem.
  • Outcome: Teams are aligned on the process and ready to dive deeper into ideation and development.

3. Preliminary Ideas Draft (IDEATE)

Objective: Generate a wide range of potential solutions through creative brainstorming and collaboration.

  • Process: Teams brainstorm and develop preliminary ideas, leveraging their collective expertise. This phase focuses on encouraging creativity and exploring different angles of the problem.
  • Outcome: A draft of preliminary ideas that offer various potential solutions to the challenge.

4. Mentoring Sessions (ITERATE)

Objective: Refine ideas through expert guidance and iterative feedback.

  • Process: Teams participate in mentoring sessions where they present their preliminary ideas to mentors. Feedback is provided to help refine concepts, identify potential challenges, and enhance the feasibility and impact of solutions.
  • Outcome: Improved and refined ideas that are better aligned with the challenge’s objectives.

5. Intermediary Concept (IDEATE)

Objective: Develop a more detailed and cohesive concept based on feedback and further collaboration.

  • Process: Teams work on developing an intermediary concept that builds on their preliminary ideas. This concept includes more detailed descriptions, potential impacts, and initial thoughts on implementation.
  • Outcome: A well-defined intermediary concept that shows significant progress from the preliminary ideas.

6. Mentoring Sessions (ITERATE)

Objective: Further refine and validate concepts with continuous feedback from mentors.

  • Process: Teams present their intermediary concepts to mentors for additional feedback. This phase is crucial for addressing any remaining gaps and ensuring the concept is robust and practical.
  • Outcome: A thoroughly refined concept that is ready for final development.

7. Final draft, Including the Implementation Roadmap (IMPLEMENT)

Objective: Develop a final, polished solution with a clear plan for implementation.

  • Process: Teams finalize their solutions, incorporating all previous feedback and ensuring that every aspect is well-thought-out. An implementation roadmap is created, detailing the steps needed to bring the solution to life, including timelines, resources, and potential partners.
  • Outcome: A comprehensive final draft that includes a solution and a realistic plan for implementation.

8. Validation of the Selected Solutions (ITERATE)

Objective: Validate the final solutions through expert review and iterative adjustments.

  • Process: Teams submit their final drafts for validation by a panel of experts. This phase involves a critical review to ensure the solution’s viability, impact, and alignment with the challenge’s goals. Teams may need to make final adjustments based on this feedback.
  • Outcome: Validated solutions that are ready for final presentation and pitching.

9. Final Entries and Final Pitch (IMPLEMENT)

Objective: Present the final solutions in a compelling and persuasive manner.

  • Process: Teams prepare their final entries on the digital hub through a given form based on the solutions template. Shortlisted teams will pitch their solutions to the jury. This includes a concise presentation of the problem, solution, implementation plan, and expected impact. The pitch is designed to convince the jury of the solution’s potential and readiness for real-world application.
  • Outcome: Final submissions and pitches that clearly articulate the value and feasibility of the solutions.

10. Evaluation (ITERATE)

Objective: Assess the final solutions based on predefined criteria and expert judgment.

  • Process: The jury evaluates the final entries using a set of criteria such as innovation, impact, feasibility, and scalability. This phase involves careful deliberation to determine which solutions best meet the challenge’s objectives.
  • Outcome: A ranking of the final solutions based on their merit, leading to the selection of winners. There can be multiple winners sharing the prize for each challenge.

11. Announcement of the Winners (SOLVED)

Objective: Officially recognize and reward the winning solutions and teams.

  • Process: The winners are announced through a formal webinar, highlighting their achievements and contributions to solving the ecological challenge. This phase also includes the dissemination of results to stakeholders and the public.
  • Outcome: Public recognition of the winning teams, with potential for further development, investment, and implementation of their solutions.

This process ensures a structured, iterative approach to co-creation, fostering innovation and collaboration while guiding teams from idea generation to the final implementation of impactful solutions.
